Dante and I had been training in obedience for a few years and I decided that the time had come that we were "trial ready". We entered two obedience trials, held at the Nanaimo Kennel Club shows on June 18 and 19th, 2005, with the goal being that we would complete our CD ( Companion Dog) title at the upcoming Weimaraner Assocaition of Canada's National Specialty Show in July, 2005.

Entered in the Novice B class, our first run was pretty clean, for which we recieved a qualifying score of 187/200, and Highest Qualifying Sporting Dog.

The next day was a "different" story....... We were in the "heel" position awaiting entry into the obedience ring, when Dante spotted a stuffed toy in a ringside chair. As soon as I recognized it had caught his attention, I knew exactly what was going through his mind. The chair was promptly turned to face the other way, as we tried to recollect our composure. At this time the ring steward decided to move the prize for High In Class in open A (there were no qualifiers) from the ringside obedience table back to the main trophy table. It just happened to be a large triangular stuffed toy with squeakers in each corner. She walked directly in front of us, and as she did Dante's eyes became as large as saucers, dilated with excitement. I knew we were in trouble as the ringsteward called us to enter the ring. Dante remained completely distracted as if to say, "but Mom, it went that a way!!!!" We started with our heel on/off leash and it was not a pretty sight. Our "stuffie" distraction cost us 10 points for a total score of 180/200. I felt the judge was more than generous for that performance. We ended up with our second leg of our CD, and placing High in Novice B class. Dante won that same stuffie that cost us the 10 points!!!! A good laugh was had by all......
